Join us for Organic Day at the Capital!

As a member of the Oregon Organic Coalition, we invite you to join us for the 2nd Annual Organic Grows a Better Oregon day on Thursday, January 16th, 2020, 11a - 1pm at the Oregon Capitol in Salem.

Meet with organic farmers and business leaders to promote the positive environmental, economic, and human health benefits of organic agriculture in our state. The first-of-its-kind event last year was quite successful and we anticipate another positive and valuable event this year.

Even though Oregon is a leader in organic agriculture, we had less than one half-time organic Extension agent for the entire state. Thankfully, because of our efforts and those of our coalition partners, that was just increased to 2 full-time positions (for the first time ever) but we're not stopping there! We will continue our advocacy for more significant investments in organic education and infrastructure.

Hear from others, or share your story, and enjoy a free, all-organic luncheon as we promote organic agriculture.

Bend, we have educational events coming your way...

January 15th, Bend:  Eating Animals Film Screening, Central Oregon Locavore, 6:45pm
Join us for our final showing of this award-winning documentary aimed at sparking conversation about the difficult but important truths hidden in our food system. We will be joined by guest speaker Brian Lepore of Golden Eagle Organics in Bend. Golden Eagle uses rotational grazing practices to raise lamb and goat and also grows berries and mixed vegetables. Brian will be talking about what it means to raise animals in a way that is healthy for the animals, environment, and eaters.

January 28th, Bend: InFARMation (& Beer!), Deschutes Brewery (Bend Public House), 6pm
Buying local meat can be a daunting task. Who do you buy from? Does it matter if the meat was ”pasture raised”? What does buying “half a cow” mean? We’re tackling these questions and more as we dive into the why and how to purchase local meat with local producers, butchers, and consumers. Join us for a panel discussion, Q&A, and a ”meat and greet” with local producers.

End of Year Success!

Thanks to all of you who donated, and the incredibly generous match by Patagonia, we surpassed our end of year goal! We are heading into 2020 with the knowledge of just how much support there is from those who care about our precious Earth, care about where and how their food is grown, and share our vision of an Oregon where the food system is dominated by thriving, socially responsible family farms.

Your donation to Friends of Family Farmers will help us expand our advocacy for those who grow our food, and in turn help rural economies, sustain our environment, support local and regional food systems, and nourish Oregon families.

Thank you for helping keep Oregon a great place to live and farm!
